We are open from 6.30am to 6.00pm Monday to Friday at Tiwi (52 weeks of the year, closed on NT Public Holidays).
We empower children to take ownership of their learning by making choices related to their experiences, interests, and daily routines. Our teaching approach revolves around engaging conversations, actions, and play, where children actively participate as partners in seeking ideas, opinions, thoughts, and asking questions.
We strive to foster children's independence and self-help abilities by actively supporting them in their daily routine and engaging them in projects that align with their interests, ultimately enriching their learning and knowledge.
Our Service is deeply committed to sustainability. We are dedicated to instilling in children a love and respect for the environment by integrating sustainable practices into our daily operations, infrastructure, and teaching methods.
To strengthen our sustainability program, we focus on empowering children to make a positive impact and encouraging them to learn and appreciate their surroundings in a enjoyable and thrilling way. We achieve this by actively involving children in conversations about sustainable practices, motivating them to take part in recycling initiatives, and promoting energy reduction and water conservation.
Our goal is to equip children with the skills and knowledge necessary to become eco-conscious individuals.
We strongly encourage every child to accompany a family member and attend the Service at least three times prior to their first day with us.
This offers you and your child the chance to familiarize yourselves with our program, the room layout, the location of items, and also enables educators to gather more information about your child and how we can best support their transition and settling in period.
At Top End Early Learning Centre, we operate an open door policy, meaning that you and your child are invited to visit us at any time. You are encouraged to capture photographs of your child in our environment, which can be shared and discussed at home. Additionally, some children enjoy borrowing a book from our library to read at home and return on their next visit.
During the initial weeks, farewells may bring forth tears and extra tight embraces, but rest assured, our Educators are always there to provide cuddles, reassurance, and genuine care to both the children and their families. At times, this experience can be more distressing for the family than the child. We fully comprehend this and extend our support through phone calls throughout the day, along with the provision of photos.
Ideally, we aim to have your child engaged in an activity before your departure; however, some children may find it challenging to settle until their parents have left. We have found that following a structured routine, which can be established during the orientation process, tends to yield the best results. By being well-prepared and avoiding any rush, we ensure a calm and peaceful start to the day.
